Painting Our Terrain Footprints

So you’ve grabbed a set of our terrain footprints (or they’re on the way in the post), but plain MDF isn’t going to make your tabletop games look any good. How are you going to pain them without spending valuable hobby time on them.

So, painting plans…

Our etched MDF gives some great texture for paint to adhere to, opening up a handful of techniques for you to use when painting.

The Colour Forge – Terrain Painting Guide

The 1st option is super easy. Use our terrain painting guide.

The guide shows you colour combinations and techniques to use on terrain, giving them coloured textures. You can swap out the colour combinations if you’re looking to match it to your neoprene mats or current terrain collection, but adding that texture, quickly and easily, can be the mother of all time savers.

Sponging

If you’d rather prime in a single colour and have a bit more precise control on your scheme, you can use pot paints to complete the terrain with the help of some sponges.

Use foam from old storage boxes, make up sponges, or cleaning pads. With different amounts of paint, and varying the pressure you can build up interesting patterns and textures.

This takes a bit longer than just using primers, but you have a bit more control and can build up greater contrasts.

Adding Extra Details

Using either of these above techniques are great for getting terrain on the tabletop, at a good standard, quickly. But if you want to go a bit further (and have that extra bit of hobby time) adding a few fine details will really help the terrain footprints look great.

There are logos, rubble, metalwork and sigils on the footprints giving you parts to add detail to.

However you choose to paint your terrain footprints don’t forget the most important thing… to share pics with us on socials so we can spend time “working” and looking at a load of great paintjobs.
