One of the reasons The Colour Forge loves going to shows like Salute and UK Games Expo is that we get to chat with hobbyists who may not have come across us before.
They sometimes approach us with mild bemusement, why are we selling dozens of other colours of spray primer when we have a popular Matt White and Matt Black sitting there?
The answer? We are obsessed with spray primers! But, equally important… access to good quality, coloured spray primers is more important than you might think.
Being able to grab our coloured spray primers benefits painters in two different ways.
Firstly, it makes hobbying quicker, with the finish and coverage our primers provide you don’t need to layer over them if you don’t want to. Projects can be completed in record time.
Secondly, it helps improve your end result. Your choice of primer can affect how every other step in your paint scheme looks. So the right foundation is key to every paint scheme.
You already know this second point is important because sometimes you choose Black Primer, and other times White Primer. In the same way you choose between Black and White, you should choose between Purple and a muted Green, or a warm Beige versus a light Grey.
Depending on what you’re painting, and what scheme you’re going for; lighter vs darker, more vs less saturated, vibrant vs more grim dark, will help make your choice as to what colour primer is the right foundation for you to start with.
Next time you stock up on spray primer, don’t auto-pilot to Black or White, spend a minute thinking about what you’re painting, and what would work as an interesting primer to help develop that scheme further. Some choices might surprise you and help you #UpYourHobbyGame this year!
