Rattle Cans Only Give Your Paint Something To Stick To… Right?… Wrong!

Our spray primers have a colour variety, coverage, and finish at such a high standard that you don’t need to paint over them.

We had some fun during last year’s Kickstarter campaign playing around with Primer only colour schemes. Take a look at the results of our first couple of experiments.

Tau Commander: Shas’O Island Hopper

The Tau Commander use THREE different sprays from the Signature Series. after a base of Midwinter Ice we cut irregularly shaped masking tape and cover parts where we wanted to protect that blue. We added a layer of Dead Animal Bits and repeated the masking take to protect this colour, lastly using Ashen Grey for the main scheme colour.

After the best part, unpeeling all the tape, we finished the mini with a pin wash on each armour section and picking out a couple of details with acrylic paints.

We’re really happy with how this Oceanic, island-hopping Tau Commander has come out, and it’s only possible because of the brilliant coverage and finish our primers give you. And 6 coats of primer on this model and the details are still super crisp! Any other primer would turn this commander into Shas’O paint blob!

Team Yankee: British Armour

We also played around with a 2 tone tank camouflage on some Team Yankee Brits.

I wasn’t too taken with the historically accurate green and black. It makes the whole model too dark, obscuring the detail on these great minis. The answer? Some Dead Animal Bits over a base of Govenor Green!

No masking tape is used here. Blu tack helps to make the curved, natural shapes for this pattern.

Then it was a quick wash all over, some decals, and a bit of weathering, done! We’ll 100% be using this technique over and over again.
